by definition hip hop is beats and lyrics... however, i belive the term hip hop has been bastardized to the point that anything that is "urban" is considered hip hop. in my opinion it is eaiser to say what hip hop isnt than what hip hop is. if that makes any sense. i am 37 years old and have listened to hip hop since 1980. it is truly my music. and it saddens me to see acts like lupe and 50cent and nelly considered to be the finest genere of music ever created when it is nothing more than pop.
