Posessed were probably the 1st band to use death metal like vocals and yes they did have a song called death metal but in my opinion if you listen to the music itself...its pure thrash...and posessed lyrics were something like black metal/thrash...in my opinion the 1st death metal album would be "Scream Bloody Gore" by Death...they had the music,lyrics and imagery down for death metal..they were the 1st to do it. Possessed is NOT death metal...go listen to the guitar sound...its thrash!

They were death metal. The term "death metal" has changed so much since then that now all of the younger fans who like thrash don't realize that Possessed, Sodom, Kreator, Celtic Frost, etc. were all considered black or death metal back in the mid 80's. Anyway, thrash/black/death metal all has the same roots, so it doesn't matter that much what you call it as long as it is heavy.

You speaketh the truth. This and the other bands you mentioned WERE Death Metal and had little in common with thrash bands like Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica and Slayer. It was more primitive for starters. If you were there you know, if not and you don't get it... well your a confused poser
