Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili has called for an immediate ceasefire to the conflict raging in Georgia's breakaway region of South Ossetia, adding that Russia has launched, quote a "fullscale military invasion of its country".
Russia says its just trying to protect its people, and described the situation there as a humanitarian catastrophe.
Jonah Hull has the latest on the outskirts of South Ossetia.

Russia: Handed out passport like handing out candies. The two regions, Abkhazia & South Ossetia both wanted to be independent since the broke up of Soviet Union (1991). Georgia from these two regions were chased out by the governments of these regions. There are no innocent parties here except the civilians. Russia & U.S were contributing directly/indirectly to the problem.

Informed moderate Americans know that Georgia's democratic government initiated the fighting in S Ossetia. I think Russian moderates are aware as well that the separatist government was supported by the Kremlin. Russian and the US have a long history of meddling with the sovereignty of states. I think the path forward to better US-Russian relations and stability in the region starts by ending this practice and finding cooperative ways to fix failing states.
