In NASCAR the engines, speaking of strict rules, are naturally aspirated, carburated thats right no fuel injection no high tech ECM just an HEI distributor. Along with a mechanically operated fuel pump not electric and they still push 800-850 hp. Also nearly every track in NASCAR is different along with unique turns. NASCAR has two road races a year, they are dull at best rarely do they excite. NASCAR rules!

800hp out of a 5.7l engine is something u might find in a roadcar and not really impressive (especially when u take the weight of the whole car into account). But 800hp out of a light 2.4l is an actual achievement. Is there any technical innovation going on in NASCAR?

Aside from safety innovations HANS devices which were around before they were used in NASCAR but they were the first to make them required. To answer your question tire technology is a constant fight to make tires that will hold up to the speed, g-force, and weight of the cars. As far as the weight is concerned its not the motor that weighs that much it's the steel body on the car and the massive roll cage. In fact an OHV motor is smaller and lighter even though the displacement is greater.

Due to the fact that the empty space in an OHV motor is used the cam sets between the pistons not on top of the head. There is only one cam not four less weight, the cam is not in the head which means the overall height and width of the OHV motor is less. Also in NASCAR use of exotic metals magnesium... etc. and materials such as carbon fiber in the motor are prohibited. In order to keep costs down and keep the sport competitive allowing small race teams to compete.

I don't know why, but for some reason, whenever on the off chance I do see NASCAR on TV, I have the sudden urge to marry my sister, which is weird considering that I don't have a sister. Formula 1 and MotoGP forever. If I wanted to see overtaking action akin to NASCAR, I'd just go and drive on the fucking freeway.

Dude, you're a tool. Comparing NASCAR to F1 is like comparing an apple to a papaya, so it is absolutely useless. The technology used in F1 cars is unparalleled, I'll give ya that much...but the competition as a whole that NASCAR provides is second-to-none. It isn't the same few guys winning every single race because their cars are so much more advanced than the rest...let's put Lewis Hamilton in a Red Bull or Kimi Raikkonen in a Williams and see if they can duplicate their successes.

(cont.) Whereas these guys that are coming over from F1 to run NASCAR, they've been getting a rude surprise to just how hard these cars are to drive. The only one that's had any kind of success is Montoya, and that's because he has an aggressive driving style that befits an American stock car. Now I'd like to see Hamilton or Raikkonen try THEIR hands at a stock car, seeing as how we're throwing Kyle Busch to you guys later this year...

So you think the machine makes the driver for GP racing? Try telling that to the likes of Fernando Alonso of F1 and Valentino Rossi of MotoGP. Alonso brought 2 championships to a team that was against two other teams that were miles ahead in terms of technology. Rossi won 3 world championships for the Repsol Honda team, which boasted at the time the most powerful engine in the premier class, but moved to the Yamaha factory team to prove that "the bike didn't make the rider."

I won't question Alonso's talent...I'm sure you saw the Singapore GP last weekend, and that is proof enough for me. And I don't really follow the MotoGP scene well enough to know the teams, but I do know that Rossi's a hell of a rider. But those two cases are the exception rather than the norm from what I've seen.
