you won't find many ... ( 1 month ago by ithet)
you won't find many people who rate tupac that were listening to hip-hop before he came out. in the whole context of the last 30yrs of hip-hop the only new thing tupac bought to the game was the term "thug life" and being an actor/dancer/drama school graduate that doesn't really carry much authenticity coming from him. tupace was simply not innovative. tupac is for girls.
a decent and ... ( 1 month ago by ithet)
a decent and considered top 5. the negative characteristics of each of your top 5 would be -
1, Rakim - takes himself too seriously but when you analyse his lyrics, he's just as abstract as Keith.
2, KRS-One - smug, self-contradictory.
3, Jay-Z - engineered image, albums follow linear trajectory with little deviation from marcy to madison sq concept.
4, Nas - sounds miserable all the time.
5, B.D.K - no longevity/prolificity suggests weakness of character.

Tupac was a poet, ... ( 1 month ago by ludacrisboii)
Tupac was a poet, obviously if you think the only thing he brought to rap was thug life you only listened to tracks like hit em up etc... Listen to some more of his songs, maybe a whole album, its some real hip hop because hip-hop was meant for the people and he is rapping about the people and the struggles of young black men... Shorty Wanna Be A Thug was a good track that summed up what i just said...
he was a poet but ... ( 1 month ago by ithet)
he was a poet but he didn't bring anything new to the table except the term "thuglife" (he weren't even the first thug rapper though). sure he did other types of stuff but none of it was innovative to the game. his poetry themes on the struggles of young black men can be found in earlier MC's such as Brother J, Chuck D, KRS-One, Double Trouble and a bunch of man who weren't as photogenic as Tupac and not trained actors and tbus did not get the same acclaim.
and what would you ... ( 1 month ago by ithet)
and what would you know about anything to be making a comment eh ? can you remember Jay in 86 spittin flows that noone else had even attempted. Search "gettin busy high potent" and have a listen.
Okay first of all ... ( 1 month ago by ludacrisboii)
Okay first of all KRS-One is the biggest Hypocrite in Hip-Hop, lets get that straight... I like his music but he is a Hypocrite... Second, Tupac's style on how he gave the message and portrayed young black youth was different to Chuck D, KRS-One etc, and has a mother smoother flow... I'm not sure where you are trying to go with this, maybe your trying to argue that Tupac wasn't a good Hip-Hop artist because to me he should be in the top 3
i would argue he ... ( 1 month ago by ithet)
i would argue he isn't even hip-hop but rather just a 'rapper'. he doesn't even engage the other elements of the culture.
perhpas if i came into hip-hop later i would see whatall the fuss is about but to me he's just another rapper in a long line but who somehow through his sentimental themes, good looks and corporate marketing he managed to capture the hearts of adolescents who weren't aware of what came before him.
Hip Hop artist ... ( 1 month ago by ludacrisboii)
Hip Hop artist write about their environment, Tupac Shakur wrote about the environment of the 90s in L.A. and the Bay Area, the artist's you are talking about are on the east coast in the 80s... maybe because i live in the west coast i can relate to him more and vice versa you get what im saying?

Umm Rakim takes ... ( 15 hours ago by Aphoresis)
Umm Rakim takes himself less seriously than any other Hip Hop artist i have ever seen, are you kidding me? have you ever seen how humble the guy is in interviews?
What other rapper do you know who is considered a legend and icon of Hip Hop that would rate another rapper that was out years after him and who he is probably lyrically better than, as BETTER THAN HIMSELF. What rapper says that someone is better than them in an interview, are you crazy? Your favorite rapper sure won't.
have you ever heard ... ( 15 hours ago by ithet)
have you ever heard the saying "don't be so humble, you're not that great"?
