Excellent point, it's all about creativity in music (different tones as you say). Example, what if guys like Tony Levin of King Crimson where caught up in the proper way to play? To pick or not to pick? What about Chris Squire of Yes, a steel pick inverted to the fat side to give the notes in E minor a crispy deep sound. A bass musician could use his dick to play (if he had a double gift)! Ba-Dong-A-Dong

i think in a band you must understand the differences in all instruments. to take a guitar line and put it on a bass, is, well ordinary. not for a normal bassist, but for a guitarist. if you take the guy in this video and change the bass to a guitar, he would be like many thousands of players. no difference. now, im not saying he's bad, in fact i think he is great. but this video isn't out of the ordinary.

nothing too special, hammerons, pulloffs and alternate picking. He's jsut doing major scales up and down mostly from what i noticed, jsut get good at those nad speed em up and you have a bass shredding video.

They're not just Major Scales, they're actually basically harmonic minor scales starting on the fifth interval as if it were the root; you get a middle eastern sound out of it. I think it's also called the Ashkenazi scale.
