well, a day-old baby can't survive for hours with no food and warmth =( also, babies have no smell, in most species, or they have that "newborn/baby smell" that all animals recognize as being not a threat, and instinct made the leopard protect the baby, even though it wasn't hers

I think right when the leopard noticed the baby, in it's own strange way, it felt some kind of remorse for the kill, hence, it was more concerned for the babies safety than eating the kill itself. I know that sounds strange but...well, if a leopard can adopt a baby of another species, anything's possible.
