Yeah they did have to keep it neutral or there probably would have been major controversey. Even though they didn't say it I still felt Jesus in a heavy way through the words and their heartfelt performance.

What is the problem with it being "appealing" and "inspiring" to the people who don't believe in Jesus? I found the song very beautiful and religious being the first time I had ever heard it! And it can be inspirational to people who don't believe.

I found this really refreshing, but I am sorry they thought they had to get rid of Jesus to do this. This song was originally meant as a worship song to Jesus and instead they made it generic.

I'm not really one to go 'thumpin' on Bibles and wearing all my faith on my sleeve for everyone to see, (because it often looks like someone's trying to be so pious when they're really not) but I'm really amazed and impressed that they sang this song on 'corporate america television' ...it happens to be one of the christian songs i love. BRAVO AMERICAN IDOL.... i wish i'd seen this on tv myself, but i lose interest in the show when the trainwreck auditions are finished!
