Actually, it's something of a miracle-- for the band at least. Him losing his fingertips is the main reason the band had the guitar and bass tuned down 1.5 steps to give them that doomy sound that made their music revolutionary (tuning down made it easier for Tony's prosthetic fingertips to hold down and bend the strings)
