Venom's considered the first big thrash band and gave influence to future Thrash bands (including Metallica, Slayer, etc.) but they also gave a lot of influence to those in virtually every single other form of extreme metal. They may not have the sound of black metal, but at the very least they moved it in that direction and coined its name.
