Want to read ... ( 3 months ago by BenAliGtor)
Want to read another view on this strutting martinet? Read Andy Rooney's common soldier's account of Patton in his book, "My War". Patton was far from the "military genius" this movie makes him out to be-in fact, his egotism may well have needlessly gotten men killed.
The film is good entertainment but the book it's based upon, "Patton: Ordeal & Triumph" is long on fawning adoration, and short on critical analysis. His grandson wrote a family biography that is more balanced in its analysis.
Patton hated the ... ( 3 months ago by candr)
Patton hated the solider cartoonist Bill Mauldin, the creator of the dirty battle tired Willie and other dogfaces. He even threatened to throw him in jail because of the way he drew the men, higher ups and cooler heads realized that the men liked the cartoons that took up their daily life and not the spit polish that "Blood and Guts" wanted to see.

Yes, Patton was ... ( 2 months ago by anhacus)
Yes, Patton was representative of the perfect balance of mind, will, and strength. He loved luxury and comfort like anyone else; he came from a rich family and was the richest officer in the U.S. Army, but he also realized that to beat the Germans we had to be totally death defiant and take the offensive.

Well, Patton did say he was a reincarnation of many different warriors. Maybe he was a Spartan, or King Leonitas himself.
The whole concept ... ( 1 month ago by carsel3)
The whole concept behind General Pattons hardcore aproach to the Third army was not only to build disipline, but also to build confidence in soldiers that didn't think they'd have th guts to do what they had to do in battle the thought being, to hell with fearing the enemy nothing can be as mean as Patton. In other words his being the way he was saved many american soldiers, bringing them home.

Umm, stop insulting ... ( 1 month ago by JoeTyler85)
Umm, stop insulting the democrats please; do you guys realize that Patton served (and won the war) under the command of the two greatest democrats of all time? (first Roosevelt, and then Truman, the man who dropped the big bomb, by the way): the democrats can be mean leaders if they have to; Clinton nearly destroyed Serbia and I'm sure Obama will take care of Iran (surely not an invasion, but he will use agressive diplomacy, that's for sure).
Dude, let's hope ... ( 1 month ago by mustaine89)
Dude, let's hope Truman wasn't one of the two greatest Democrats of all time. And Clinton's bombing of Serbia is no better than Bush's invasion of Iraq, which always makes me wonder how Democrats could support Clinton. I'm sure it's not for partisan reasons though.

While speaking to a group of reporters, he compared the Nazis to losers in American political elections, and that being a Nazi in Germany was just being a member of a political party, "like being a Democrat in the States."
His words not mine.

Yes. People think ... ( 5 days ago by radio187)
Yes. People think he was some kind of psychopath, which is a ridiculous characterization. He was trying to instill morale and discipline in his army so that they wouldn't fold when the times got rough, such as in the winter of 44-45. 3rd Army's performance there proved that his methods were sound. It also bears remembering that everyone who mattered in the US gov't backed his methods, which is why he rose so high. To win a war, you have to be hard.
