They didn't get it then and they never have-- they have just had to bow to the historical record of sabbath's massive influnces. Hell they delayed their entry into the RNR HOF for years while admitting obscure one-hit wonders. Rolling Stone--- that tired old 60s rag-- listed 3 Sabbath albums in the TOP 500 all- time recently. When these albums came out in 70 and 71-- they declared them rubbish.
